Originally a hunting dog before domesticated in America, The Weimaraner breed's lineage originated in Germany in the Duchy of Weimar. Sometimes known as the Weimar Pointer, they were once known for their hunting and sporting prowess of both large game like boars and smaller game such as ducks. Some dog aficionados refer to the Weimaraner as the "grey ghost" because of their sleek, silky grey coats. Weimaraner eyes are usually grey-blue or amber and lend the dog a very intelligent appearance. In terms of personality, the Weimaraner is loyal, bold, playful and fearless. Sometimes prone to poor obedience, many Weimaraner owners have to resort to obedience training to keep their dogs in line.
